A bit about Barkmonster Music

I reject the idea of writing my About section in the third person, but if I did, it would start with "Julia Grant set up Barkmonster Music in 2024". Admittedly it's not the best name for a companyI could have come up with, but it is a way of honouring my four-legged partner in crime — Bob Grant aka "Barkmonster Bob". Bob himself was largely unconcerned by music, however I insist that he must be honoured in a number of ways and this is just one of them.

As for me, I do like music. I worked as the Label Manager for my favourite record label, Loose, for 10 years, I briefly worked as the Artist Liaison in the London's legendary Luminaire and I have worked as a Stage Manager and Artist Liaison at a number of festivals and shows. I have repped shows, promoted shows and loads of other shit like that. I have toured with artists as a Tour Manager in the UK and as a Merch Manager in the US, UK and various other parts of Europe. I have spent over 15 years selling merch for a huge number of international artists. Absolutely any opportunity to do so, there I am, in my element, behind the merch desk.

Now primarily based on a small Scottish island, I have taken to managing "cult hero", Peter Bruntnell, who I was introduced to whilst working at Loose. This has so far involved release planning, rights registration, biography writing, artwork design, photography, social media manager, agent, promoter and general advisor, amongst all the many other things. I have also recently begun working with Catalan singer-songwriter Joana Serrat. How could I not — she completely blows me away every time I see her play and her records are filled with dreamy perfect pop. I am not currently looking to take on any other artists, unless you can convince me otherwise.

In addition to the artist management, I am relatively actively seeking any opportunities to source a box of Throat Coat or get on the road and "sling cotton" — jobs generally associated with artist liaison and selling merch. I'm not opposed to a spot of label admin either. More on that soon.

Through fear of appearing egotistical, you will not find any large-font "Oh my God, best merch girl ever!!" type quotes about me anywhere on this page, but I can provide references on request.
